Kingdom of Benin
We show and discuss:
- maps of Europe, Africa and West Africa to locate the Kingdom of Benin in present day Nigeria
- objects made of ivory, bronze and brass
- masks used in masquerades, ancestor worship
- masks from other African countries which influenced Picasso, Matisse, Modigliani.
We show works by these artists; demonstrating their debt to African culture.
